Alliance Will Build on Existing Wireless Messaging
Share of Market in the Health Care Industry
ALEXANDRIA, Va. and ATLANTA, April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Metrocall, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCLL), and WirelessMD(TM), Inc., today announced a strategic partnering agreement, which will result in the nation's most comprehensive wireless messaging and data service specifically geared toward the medical community.
This agreement provides the framework for a mutual co-marketing effort, which will result in upgrades of the one-way pagers physicians currently use, to the two-way interactive state-of-the-art ReFLEX 25 system. Metrocall, with its Systems Applications Division and the acquisition of wireless medical vendor ProNet, serves more than 4,000 hospitals, clinics, and other medical facilities and more than 300,000 medical and healthcare professionals.
As a primary wireless messaging and data vendor supporting the WirelessMD application, Metrocall will build on its dominance of the medical and healthcare industry. Utilizing the complementary assets of Metrocall's two-way nationwide messaging capabilities and WirelessMD's proprietary interactive medical data retrieval application, the medical community will benefit from a uniquely robust and accessible connectivity.
The Motorola 2000X two-way messaging device is the primary mechanism that will be utilized by doctors and other medical professionals. This handheld device combines pager, email, voicemail, fax and an answering service in one easy-to-use wireless communicator. These features combined with the WirelessMD software allow the medical community to access information such as lab results, patient updates, prescriptions and interaction warnings among many other non-medical functions on a real-time basis through a nationwide ReFLEX 25 network.
"The creation of this partnership represents an unprecedented synergy that will empower the healthcare community through the immediacy of valuable medical content delivered wherever they are, whenever they need it," stated Steven D. Jacoby, Metrocall's chief operating officer. "The agreement between Metrocall and WirelessMD is also ideal from a business standpoint as the unsurpassed market penetration of both organizations is flourishing and will continue to grow."
"Our joint customers are the ultimate beneficiaries since this partnership provides the most comprehensive wireless connectivity solution for the medical community. We believe together with Metrocall, that we can create a new standard for wireless medical communications, empowering medical professionals with unparalleled mobility and communication capabilities," stated Sergio Silva, chief operating officer of WirelessMD. "In addition, this alliance represents another step towards enhancing our brand equity and building our physician user base."
