Data Broadcasting Launches a WAP-Enabled Financial Portal -- A Wireless Internet Solution for Traders
BUSINESS WIRE - March 06, 2000 08:32
HAYWARD, Calif., Mar 6, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Furthering its efforts to provide traders with the most advanced technology and financial information available, Data Broadcasting Corp. (Nasdaq:DBCC) today announced it has launched a wireless financial portal, which is accessible to all WAP (Wireless Application Protocol)-enabled cell phones, pagers and Palm (Nasdaq:PALM) devices worldwide.

This new service will allow traders and investors to receive portable real-time market indices, market quotes from the NYSE, Nasdaq and AMEX exchanges, breaking news, gainers and losers data, and fundamental data, including 52-week highs and lows.

"DBC has been a pioneer in the delivery of wireless quotes," said Chuck Thompson, senior vice president and managing director of DBC. "We initially offered wireless, streaming real-time quotes to users through portable QuoTrek, which today represents a $8 million business.

"We've been operating quote servers for Phone.com for over four years, and now offer mobile users this new wireless Internet standard, making this information available anywhere, any time and on any device."

Utilizing Phone.com's (Nasdaq:PHCM) embedded mini-browser in a wireless phone, pager or Palm device allows the user to access eSignal's WAP-enabled financial portal.

To learn more about this new application for the eSignal product, visit esignal.com. WAP-enabled device users should visit phone.esignal.com to receive the service.

WAP-compatible phones are now available from more than 20 handset manufacturing companies worldwide including Qualcomm (Nasdaq:QCOM), Nokia (NYSE:NOK), Motorola (NYSE:MOT) and Ericsson (Nasdaq:ERICY). Carriers offering WAP compatibility include AT&T (NYSE:T), BT Cellnet (NYSE:BTY), Sprint PCS (NYSE:PCS) and Nextel (Nasdaq:NXTL).

Other companies offering similar access to wireless market quotes include Aether (Nasdaq:AETH), SmartServ (OTCBB:SSOL) and Research in Motion (Nasdaq:RIMM), however phone.eSignal.com offers a more powerful connection as it enables industry standard WAP. Plus, eSignal acquires its financial information directly from the exchanges.

Newly installed Compaq Alpha Servers, reputed to be the world's fastest, support the reliable and speedy infrastructure of eSignal. DBC has multiple, redundant and geographically separate high-speed server farms in order to ensure the industry-leading reliability that customers count on, and handle the enormous increases in exchange data expected over the next years.

Voltaire wrote in his reply to Coonaz's split question:

probably nil,nil,and nil.

<Clappy the simpleton gets out his calculator and multiplies 3 times 0.>

Coonaz, It looks like a 3:0 split may be likely.
For every share of QCOM you don't have, you will get three more shares you don't get to have.
Look for QCOM to Rocket if this is the case.
I'd gladly pay the current price of 131!

<Jim Willie lifts his head from the Wall St. Journal and stares at Clappy the baffoon and shakes his head in disbelief of what he just heard...>

<Polvo, gets his calculator out and checks Clappy's math.>

<Voltaire scratches his head and begins wondering how Clappy the stooge ever made it past filling in the SI application so he could post here...>

<Dealer, with the patience of a saint, pats him on the back and leads him back to his school desk. She whispers into his hear that he should raise his hand before he jumps up and gives an answer...>

<Techguerrilla shoots a paper spit ball at the blackboard and quickly hides the straw...>

HeeHaw!

Morning Tom,

Spoke to Accutrade, regarding the calls on ELON, felt it would not create a problem on the transfer.

Been PMing one of our well known lassies of the thread and she feels strongly that ELON is going to pull back to the 45-50 range to backfill. Do you have the same feel? If so it would be better to sell and buy in later would it not?

Back at you later,
J
