JDS Uniphase Introduces New Products Supporting 10 Gb/s Optical
Systems

BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 2000--JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU and TSE: JDU) today
announced its plans to introduce several new products targeted for 10 Gb/s (OC-192) systems at OFC 2000, the premier fiberoptics show taking place in
Baltimore, Maryland.

The new products, operating at 10 Gb/s, range from individual optical components to complete modules. JDS Uniphase intends to introduce a 10 Gb/s
electroabsorption modulated laser that is designed for single channel applications in the 1550 nm range and well suited for short- and intermediate-reach
OC-192/STM-194 transmission systems. Another 10 Gb/s component product to be announced is a chirped data modulator with an integrated variable optical
attenuator. This product is designed for medium- and long-haul WDM transmission at 10 Gb/s and for DWDM transmitters requiring active optical output power
balancing.

JDS Uniphase intends to also introduce 10 Gb/s high-sensitivity avalanche photodiode receiver (APD) and PIN photodiode optical receiver modules. These
receivers are designed to meet or exceed the SONET/SDH optical interface requirements at OC-192/STM-64 data rates. With its high sensitivity and wide
dynamic range, the APD is particularly well suited for DWDM applications involving large channel counts. In addition, the company plans to demonstrate 10 Gb/s
transmitter and receiver modules at the show. These new modules are part of a series for short-distance, intermediate- and long-reach applications and feature a
variety of modulation methods, such as direct modulation, mach-zender and electroabsorption.

``With the rapid deployment of 10Gb/s systems, our customers are asking for a full range of product solutions from components to modules. These introductions
are an important extension to our existing 10 Gb/s product line, and we believe they will help us serve our customers more effectively,' said Jozef Straus,
Co-Chairman, President and Chief Operating Officer of JDS Uniphase.
