ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Mar 6, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- LightPath Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: LPTHA) announced today that it has been qualified by Avanex Corporation (Nasdaq: AVNX) to supply high-performance optical components for its telecommunications products.

The custom optics were designed specifically for Avanex and incorporate LightPath's proprietary GRADIUM(R) glass technology. Currently, Avanex is qualifying several other LightPath telecommunications products, including customized versions of the company's standard collimator products.

LightPath manufactures a family of high-performance fiber-optic collimator products utilizing its proprietary technologies, including laser-fusion, laser-polishing and GRADIUM axial gradient-index glass.

Voltaire, Lightpath is my favorite stock. Bought it in Dec of 97 when I hunted for a photonics company. Glad you like it since I always make a point of noticing what you are into.

V, I should also mention that Lightpath's float will be larger due to warrant calling. I consider that good though as there will be more shares for funds to buy. They had a complicated capital structure which is almost all cleaned up. In the days when they went public, they were unique in that they had to become profitable after going public, not before. (the idea was that they were really more like a biotech at that time than anything.) That scenario may be common today but it wasn't back then. Someone reliable said that Goldman Sachs was buying today although I can't confirm it.
