Dear JDN: No, my grandfather was _not_ President Hoover BUT he never corrected anyone when someone would say something like, "Good morning, Mr. President." He'd smile, tip his hat (if wearing one at the time), and reply, "Good morning." My father almost cries due to(his)laughter when his father's bottom pinching and/or never correcting people who though he was Hoover comes up. In the 50+ years he and my mother have been married, my mother has _never_ been able to convince him that women DID NOT like this and only did not slug my grandfather because either: a.) they did not want to injure and old man; or b.) did not think they could get away with slugging "the president."
