I could hear at one time, even played guitar..
Like the lead guitar on Mountain? Too loud of rock&roll?

I had a philosophy class in college in which we discussed handicaps, and did a little role playing with wheelchairs, vasaline covered glasses, blindfolds, and ear protectors. A consensus was that deafness was one of the most difficult of these because in the general population, where most people don't know sign language, the deaf person is cut off from effective communication, and therefore isolated.

Greg, you are a great communicator, I am suspecting that the internet, with it's emphasis on written language has changed the equation we debated in college. My mother was an avid user of e-mail until she went blind, she can still type but she can't see the little icons that are necessary to make windows run. Now she is a heavy user of the telephone.
