JDN, a safe and sane Fourth of Juy post, on March 6th.

I think that, just as Intel was paranoid about letting AMD (or Cyrix) make too large inroads in the sub-$1000 PC space, they don't want the masses to get too comfy with AMD now either. PC chips are still the boss for quite a while. I also think the new markets are very important also. We want it all!

JDN - Re: "Also, I think it very important that INTC always stick to the high road and avoid quick releases etc to win a "race" which frankly I think few care about."

Intel is merely protecting its flanks.

You talk about "How about remaking the company to face the new age in telecommunication and computing. "

Well, Intel IS doing this - and they can only do this if it is financed by its existing profit-centers. And guess what they are?

They are "only one" - CPUs - everything else is sold at marginal profits or at a loss - as far as accounting goes.

If Intel allows its Cash Cow to get gored by AMD, profits will fall and you won't be so patient with Intel's multi-year transition into a more profitable area of business.

And I think you can figure out what will happen to Intel's share price IF profits start falling.
