Terry, I agree, the threat is real, but I do like this "Aware is also currently working with both NEC and Intel to develop full-rate and G.lite solutions targeted at residential CPE equipment, including system-on-a-chip solutions for gateway devices. These two customers are the number one and number two largest semiconductors companies in the world. We believe that CPE solutions from these customers will compete effectively against chipsets from Virata and others." It is quite possible that Aware was not caught napping at all with regard to this "breakthrough" technology, but rather is not yet ready to announce what they have developed. But NEC and Intel are not slouches, and if I had to have them for me or against me, I would want them in my corner. It will indeed be interesting to see what happens now! jess.

The real threat for Aware isn't VRTA, it's the panic of the market to the press release. As other's on thread have clearly pointed out...the demand is huge as is the market. This does however raise a question or two in my mind...will Virata be able to keep from being bought? If they do ge bought...will there be a company such as LU, Intel, NEC who puts Virata and Aware technology together as ADI is doing? In my view Virata can and will remain a player, but, this shot does not have enough powder in the breach to carry the slug to Aware. They do have a product, but the release today carries with it FUD.
