The Fundamentalists have literally destroyed Iran.

True. It is also true, though, that his rise to power was based purely on domestic support, and that he was the leader that most of the Iranian people wanted at that time.

I think it legitimate to question whether Americans have the obligation or the right - or, in most cases, the capacity - to rescue others from their own delusions.

It is of course interesting to wonder what Iran would look like today if the Russians hadn't invaded in 1911 to restore the Shah to his throne and prevent the rise of a constitutional monarchy, or if we hadn't stepped in to get rid of Mossadegh and keep Iran safe for the Anglo-Persian Petroleum Company. But wondering is by nature a bit of a wank: if my Aunt had a dick, she'd be my Uncle.

What happened happened. They wanted Khomeini, they got him. If they want to get rid of him, they know how to do it. Not our problem.

I hope that I speak for many on this thread when I express my heartfelt sorrow for what your daughter has endured and my admiration for your determined rescue of of her and ongoing care for her now.

However, the above is not an excuse for lapses into incoherence and bizarre forays into illogic. jbe is most assuredly not a jerk. Moreover, your responses to Steven Rogers have been ill-considered and lacking in "back up" information and thought. I suggest that before you post again on issues such as Iran, you take some time to marshall your thoughts.

Alex, you write: "I never edit my spelling." Perhaps you should, at least when you are dealing with subjects in which you claim expertise.

When you write "Allotolah" in place of "Ayatollah," it could lead other people to doubt that claim.
