I think it would be disingenuous to suggest that Globalstar intends to provide high speed data at any time in the future. There is no such plan, is there? As to what Globalstar "can" or "could" do, unless the company is working towards that goal, there's no point imagining things.

Well, the company IS working towards that goal. Currently @ 9.6Kbs, Bernie Schwartz has said 19Kbs is coming soon, and Gilder doesn't see any reason Q's HDR couldn't be used over the G* infrastructure with some small modifications.

So while near term data rates will be slow, I don't think we should be so near-sighted in saying that G* will not offer high speed data "at any time in the future."

Additionally, to those that insist that always-on connections are the only way to go--I agree. But G* is not marketing to those that have access to DSL or cable modems; they are marketing to those underserved by the current telecom infrastructure.
