I have used AltaVista but quickly abandoned it. primary reason was inability to move the banner ad around to get at what it covers: namely essential browser menu items like <back><reload><bookmark> ad infinitum (gee-a pun).

I understand why the ad banner must be on top, but have real problems not being able to move it like one can do with the microsoft office button menu.

The solution I found, unacceptable for a 17" monitor, was changing video to slower (higher resolution) settings which allowed me to shrink the browser window (and font-sizes) sufficiently to get at the browser menu. If any users out there have a better solution to use with navigator, please post it as long as it does not require a change to IE.

I also had problems running java applets/sites which give me no problem on paid ISP (Erols/crosslink).

any comments welcome.

OT: according to the instructions for LYCOS free I-net access, it does not apparently support Netscape browsers - at least that's what i read in its system requirements statement specifying the user must have msft IE. Never bothered to go further after reading that.

My conclusion thus far: you get what you pay for
