Zwolff - RE: "Any chance that X-Box will be powered by Athlons?"

I'm guessing yes it will be an Athlon or an Athlon derivative because rumors on the web from credible sites have almost always said it will use an AMD chip. Also, in the ZDNet interview with Jerry Sanders last week, Jerry Sanders said he couldn't comment further, or something like that, about X-Box. That sounds like someone signed a NDA to me!

BTW, I'm getting a RTQ that says AMD is at an all time high right now! In the past, when AMD had a huge run up the day before the stock went down in the morning after. That isn't happening so far, which is very good.

Whoa, we just broke through 50! I hope it holds this mark!

Thanks to KH for sending me the link to this article about Microsoft's upcoming entry into the console gaming market, the X-Box. According to the article, Microsoft is expected to unveil the new system this Friday, though it is not likely to be available in stores until 2001. As we already know, the console will use a 600 MHz Athlon CPU and as much as 128 MB of RAM. Since the system is based upon the x86/Windows platform, support from game developers should be fairly easy to come by. It will be interesting to see how Microsoft fares against the likes of Sony's Playstation 2 and Sega's Dreamcast.
