Of course the Q is going to get locked out of Europe. But I believe Q gets royalties on W-CDMA which should be some compensation.

Surely you didn't believe the Europeans would allow a free and fair market in a strategic industry like this. The amazing thing is that the US allows GSM and other Common Market telecom operators and products to trade in the US without any hinderance.

The Europeans have learned that they are free to exclude US companies as they wish.

this article perpetuates the annoying myth that Europe is "ahead" of the US in wireless services, when in reality they are behind precisely because they mandate that only GSM be used. It is typical of WSJ's shallow reporting and possible anti-Q bias. I read posts much earlier on the "Buy Range" thread that indicated there were many dropped calls, poor voice quality with GSM. Is that still true? Regards, -- idler.
