Here we go - Pluckhahn from Stephens weighs in -
says -
1. VRTA mgt claims will see customers announce change from Wildfire to VRTA in next 5 weeks
2. poses a challenge BUT -
- future CPE solutions will match VRTA (capabilities and costs)
- by time VRTA chips hit mkt - LU will have full rate ADSL on Wildfire as well as support for the Universal Switch Bus (makes installation easier) INTC will have routing capabilities
3. NEC and 3com (AWRE customers) will intro router-on-a-chip and system-on-a-chip functions
4. Very doubtful about VRTA claim to lead in analog front end over LU and ADI.
5. Skeptical about claimed cost savings
6. Also - if VRTA implements G-Lite - guess who they are sending royalty checks to?
7. Spoke about AWRE's position as a software designer, compared to the confusion about QCOM for years. VRTA gets customer testimonials - AWRE can not. But look at AWRE's customers - this will make INTC aggressive in promoting its AWRE based chip
8. AWRE licensees will get 40% of central office mkt and 50% of CPE.

We believe that some of Virata?s features, such as inclusion of Segmentation and Reassembly (SAR)
functionality on the ADSL chip, are not as unique as portrayed. The Company?s claim to have a jump on
Lucent and Analog Devices in the Analog Front End (AFE) portion of the solution inspires our
skepticism. So do the aggressive cost-reduction claims made by Virata, whose solution will still have
separate AFE and line drivers. Moreover, if Virata implements G. lite in its chipsets, we expect that it
will owe royalties to Aware, a reality that should become that should become clearer later this year when patents are issued.
