Well, I enjoy your whistling. It's a pretty melody. You can whistle here and on the Sycamore, ICGE and Redback threads all you want. I won't tire of the tune.

IDC Ranks BROCADE Number One Revenue Supplier in Worldwide Fibre Channel Infrastructure and Market Leader in Fibre Channel Switches

BROCADE Gains Market Share to 90 Percent of Scalable Fabric Switch Segment

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (BROCADE©) (Nasdaq: BRCD - news), the leading supplier of Fibre Channel fabric solutions for Storage Area Networking, announced today that the company was ranked the number one supplier in the worldwide Fibre Channel Infrastructure market by IDC. In its report issued this week titled, 2000 Worldwide Fibre Channel Hub and Switch Market Forecast and Review, IDC ranked BROCADE first in supplier revenue for calendar year 1999 for Fibre Channel infrastructure products. IDC forecasts that the total Fibre Channel infrastructure market -- which comprises hubs, switches and directors -- measured in supplier revenue, will reach almost $2.8 billion by 2003.

In addition, BROCADE was ranked number one in Fibre Channel fabric switches, commanding 90 percent of this product segment.
BROCADE SilkWorm fabric switches connect servers with storage devices through a storage area network (SAN), enabling companies to access and share storage in a high-performance, manageable, and scalable environment. Fibre Channel Fabric technology is the defacto standard networking foundation for SANs: only fabric-based products can be connected together to form a network framework (fabric) that can scale to keep pace with accelerating information management and storage requirements. SAN fabrics are required to support a dynamically scalable storage environment and to meet the needs of new storage services such as outsourced storage on demand.

BROCADE was also ranked number one in 1999 in the total switch segment, based on revenue and switch port shipments. IDC segments the total switch market into fabric switches, loop switches, and directors. In the IDC report, the Fibre Channel switch market was forecast as the highest growth segment of the infrastructure market.

``The momentum in the Fibre Channel infrastructure market is continuing to accelerate as more and more companies establish a networking infrastructure for their storage environments,' said Robert Gray, Research Director, IDC. ``As ever larger storage area network fabrics are implemented across wider geographic areas, we expect to see issues such as technology investment protection become a crucial issue in SAN infrastructure selection. As a result, a significant growth opportunity exists for storage networking infrastructure products that are fabric-based and can provide the investment protection of a scalable solution.'

``Through our revenue growth, market penetration, and technology advancements, BROCADE continues to demonstrate a leadership role in this rapidly evolving market; we are pleased that the new IDC data and forecast substantiates our leadership position. As the number one supplier in the storage area networking infrastructure market, we will continue to invest in advancing our technology and increasing the storage area networking connectivity options for our customers. We are committed to providing 'future-proofed,' fabric-based networking products that let our customers' storage environments keep pace with their skyrocketing information and storage management requirements,' said Peter Tarrant, BROCADE vice president of marketing and business development.
