I have alter my view after reading the below link. ELON will not be used in a process control environments that require redundancy, like an oil refinery. I can see it being using it in a point to point limited application like smoke stack or to a group of remote values, but to string all the devices together on a network with-in one process control unit, even an area of a unit, would seem to be too dangerous an application. Still the below link shows Lonworks to be used in extensive and many different applications. Very Impressive, I almost want to go back to work again. Naahhhh LOL..

uncle thanks for forcing me think more about it..

Your point of view on that subject has been stated many times in the past in different ways. Was it Gates that said he didn't think a computer would ever need more than 64K of memory ? How about the official who recommended closing the patent office in about 1890 because all the inventions had been invented.

<It all comes down to the following question: Why would you need to network the process control devices?>

I suspect there are many reasons including two big ones;
Control and monitoring of the process from anywhere(assuming proper security in place).
