Your analysis reminds me of the retail price of cigarettes. When price hikes and new taxes are announced by the mfgs, the in store retail price goes up immediately, even though the wholesale and tax hikes are not applicable to the stock already in the store. Plus, it is amazing how EVERY store does the same thing.

But, on the other hand, last year I was paying around $0.70 to $0.75 for unleaded gas when oil was at $10 bbl. Now that oil is at $30, I am glad the price of unleaded gas has not tripled as well. I can still get it most places here (Houston) for around $1.40 a gallon.
