Bob Pissani (CNBC) was talking about how the S and P 500 does not have enough tech stocks.
A lot sense especially the part of earnings stability and the company being "seasoned".
However, he guessed at one reason for JDSU not being in the index is that it is based in both Canada and USA. He mentioned how there was a problem when Chrysler was removed from the index. I think he is wrong about that one. It has more to do with the fact that JDSU still does not have positive net income and still has low revenues. Everyone knows that the base of JDSU or the control is still in the USA and that is what matters. The comparison to Daimler Chrysler is not correct as Daimler is clearly a German company---all you need is over 50% of the shares for control and Daimler took control of that company. In the case of JDSU Uniphase, the control of the combined entity was obtained by Uniphase.
The Canadian JDS in there just for the Canadian mutual and pension fund holders. The shares in Canada are only exchangeable for the "real" ones which trade on the Nasdaq.

BTW--There is no way they would have taken out Chrysler if the the surviving entity had at least 50% going to the American company. Remember, NT, a CANADIAN COMPANY, is still in---it was "granfathered" in the S and P 500
