Sounds like ICO is making a smart decision (maybe) to give the sats more flexibility than Iridium's ever had. It's pretty understandable to be amazed that Iridium's space assets apparently have zero value other than as part of the inflexible Iridium system, and now MOT has to shell out the deorbiting $$, in all probability, to literally incinerate this $4.6 billion (or whatever) investment. Iridium will make quite a case study in B-schools for years to come.
