I don't begrudge Crazy Uncle Al because he has seen the 20s and 30s which I think isn't a bad thing in and of itself. It's that he has his own irrational exuberance about seeing inflation everywhere he looks, like a little old lady checking under her bed before she goes to sleep.

If I understand my history books right, when Congress has had direct control over the central financing of the country they tended to give it away (actually sell it) to the highest bidder. I am firmly in favor of the chief central banker having nearly the privledges of a supreme court justice. We are all better off when they do the best they can, by themselves, and not with the day to day concerns of a bunch of polititians beholdent to a benefactor.
