<<Thanks as always. What's your opinion of the adoption of 300mm technology? It appears that it is now happening sooner than later and will SFAM be able to capitalize on this?>>

I haven't done a 300 mm CMP evaluation, so I'm not sure what SFAM will have to offer. I suspect that SFAM (mostly 776 and its derivatives) will win some of the business, but that the Mirra will win the vast majority of the orders of the early adopters. I'm not sure whether the Auriga is being built in a 300 mm version; I suspect that it is, but I don't recall seeing propaganda announcing the product.

I expect a number of new fab announcements in the second half of this year. I'd guess that about half will be 300 mm and that 80% of next year's announcements will be 300 mm.

My guess is that the cross-over point (more than 50% 300 mm tools being sold) for the CMP industry will not occur until 2003 or so. So, SFAM has a bit of time to get their marketing strategy implemented and their 300 mm products positioned.

We'll have to see who wins the early 300 mm run-offs. They will get substantial additional orders from the "me-too" companies that want a low-risk entre into 300 mm.
