Wendisman: Selling JDSU and LPTHA today was a case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't". My thinking was that they were coming down from their highs of the day and both had had sharp run-ups over 3-4 consecutive days. More often than not, this is a good time to take profit. I was betting against either having a dramatic announcement or presentation at the FiberOptic conference which might send them flying for another day or two. Needless to say, this is in my non-taxable trading account. My much larger positions in LPTHA and JDSU in my taxable long-term account are intact; I do not attempt to trade in and out here. Both are long-term winners and I will quickly re-enter both if they retrace for a few days.
