Dell starts online sales in Hungary

BUDAPEST, March 8 (Reuters) - Dell Computer Corp(NasdaqNM:DELL - news) announced on Wednesday that it began online sales of its products in Hungary and hopes to raise its market share to about eight percent this year from 5.4 percent.

Glenn Jones, Dell marketing director in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, was quoted as saying by the MTI news agency that its Hungarian website was its first such site in central and Eastern Europe.

Online sales are expected to account for 30 percent of Dell's total sales in Hungary by the end of the year, Jones said, declining to disclose figures.

Analysts quoted by MTI estimated that Hungary's rapidly developing computer market was worth some $1.2 billion in 1999.

MTI said Dell also planned to start online sales in Poland and the Czech Republic in the near future.
