Another thing that hasn't been mentioned...

Irwin was asked about Motorola's 1X+ announcement, and it's implications. His response was that it was a whole lot easier to create viewgraphs for an industry conference than it was to put together a working system. He also stated that he didn't believe the combination of voice and data on the same carrier could be done as efficiently as MOT has alluded, nor would it work as well as HDR.

I got the distinct impression that Irwin doesn't consider 1X+ to be a threat whatsoever.

Robert - Thanks. That was the best post from the meeting.

I still reckon that there will be players who will go to the gallows rather than pay Dr Jacobs for some reason or other.

See the post from the TDMA guys who objected to their system EDGE or GPRS being referred to as 2.5G systems. no he said they are full 3G systems and was upset that people should be denigrating them by referring to them as 2.5G.
