IBM is losing it.

It's desperation rhetoric. Let's see whether this rhymes with what their earnings reports say.

Now there's one little thing about this they need to run by us again:

Linux is also scheduled to replace the as yet unreleased Project Monterey, a multimillion pound project to combine SCO Unix and AIX on an Intel 64 architecture, Wladawsky-Berger said. In time Linux will take over Unix on the Intel space. However, he said Monterey is an important stop-gap measure, as Linux on IA64 could be five years away.

Last week the line was that Monterey and Linux would both be available when IA64 started shipping. Now Linux IA64 is five years away, but it's the other guys that are fighting fate. And Irving is selling an important stop-gap measure to mission-critical enterprise server customers.

Wouldn't it be slightly nifty if IA64 was ready to ship and the only O/S that could stand up without crashing for 72 hours was Solaris?

I think that one of two things will happen:

a) All other 64-bit native IA64 OS's trail Solaris IA64 so badly that Intel can't ship IA64 (because they can't ship if Solaris is the only thing running--M$ won't let them); or

b) IA64 will be so late that it won't matter.

In either case, daddy's home.

It's good to see IBM afraid. They are so used to being M$FT's b*tch, they are paranoid SUNW will get in on the action...

Nice SUNW buying opp today.
Bought back all March 90 and 100 calls at a nice profit.
Will sell April's when price is back to 102 - 104. Will long calls if we see 83 or below. Just sitting on the stock.

good luck to all longs!
