Craig, The investment lessons I have learned can be summarized as follows:

"My favorite holding period is forever."

"I always sell my winners too soon."

SanDisk has had a wonderful run-up in the aftermath of last
quarter's results. The SanDisk PR people have been working hard at
two major electronics expositions, Comdex in Las Vegas, Nevada
and CeBIT in Hannover, Germany. As a result there has been
a significant increase in SanDisk's visibility by the public
and others in the industry. There has been a lot of good
news recently, most notably the support of SanDisk memory
solutions in Qualcomm's CDMA chipset
and associated
software suite (a.k.a. "Launchpad"), similar plans for
support by the Symbian venture, and cooperative
efforts with Diamond Multimedia/SIII for the next
generation of the Rio! The list seems to go on and on.
This is quite typical of an innovative & enabling technology.
Applications seem to pop up everywhere you look.

The exceptional difference here is that the applications
happen to be in enormous consumer markets. Even more
impressive is the fact that these markets are in themselves
revolutionary...

***digital photography replacing chemical based film developing

***Internet audio/mp3 redefining mechanisms of distribution
for the recording industry

***handheld computing/telephony challenging/supplanting
the traditional desktop PC

Two other major announcements I am looking forward to include
the consummation of the Toshiba/SanDisk JV and the
resolution of the CompactFlash card assembly dispute.
One cannot predict when these may occur.

The only distractions I see currently would be a
catastrophic natural disaster in Taiwan (By the way,
we have already had one of these. We aren't due for
another major event for at least another century or so.)
or a catastrophic unnatural disaster in Taiwan
relating to the continued tension with mainland China.

Having said that, it is tempting to at consider taking all
or some of one's original investment off the table at these prices.

Craig and Thread, Dr. Harari asks for a "truce" between flash memory producers, including rival Sony.

This is compliments of DJBEINO on the Alliance Semiconductor thread here at SI...

semibiznews.com

Although we are all competitors, in today's shortage, it doesn't matter, lamented Harari, referring to an unexpected "truce" in the flash memory card war between SanDisk and Sony Corp., which is promoting its Memory Stick format.

I hate to see Dr. Harari lamenting. Maybe we should call for a "truce" here on the Thread as Derek has recommended. Both Sony and SanDisk will help promote consumer and OEM acceptance removable flash storage regardless of the form it takes.
