Well, Intel not announcing anything between 800 and 1G clearly shows how desperate Intel is. Tried to oneup AMD on announcement with a fake launch but AMD has been at 1G for so long now it was funny that Intel even tried this stunt.

The Dell announcement today should put an end any hope about near-term 1G availability. $6k for a system is smart short-term move on Dell's part but is a totally dumb move in the sense that they could have gotten real availability by going to AMD - Makes Michael Dell look bad.

All-in-all, this is continued good news for AMD. Cheers to the longs.

You are correct, availability was the test.

And IBM's 1GHz PIII system is available today. So PB wins the contest by predicting Intel PIII would appear first in 1 GHz Systems.
