As for an "American Conquest" of Europe, I think such statements are preposterous.

A slight exaggeration perhaps, but the veto of Koch-Weser illustrates who is in charge. When the White House spokesman says that Koch-Weser "lacks the gravitas to lead the IMF" (I suppose his 26 year career at the World Bank has been a frivolous one) despite overwhelming support from the IMF directors, it becomes clear that when America speaks, Europe jumps.

Ah well, pretty soon thugs and goons like Albright, Talbot, Berger, et. al. will be swept aside by a new administration. That coupled with the increasing interest in the European Security and Defense Identity may spell the beginning of the end for NATO. Interesting that Irving Kristol has written that NATO should be dissolved.
