Manx, For the record, Here's the article related to the 2nd headline alert in your earlier post.

I wonder if they're trying to scare us out of Comverse so
that their clients can buy in at a cheaper price.

If not, I suppose that he has a basket of stocks he rates as
"BUY" which have met or beaten earnings estimates for more
than 23 straight quarters. Yeah, Right.

Jefferies Downgrades Comverse Technology Shares to Accumulate

NEW YORK, Mar. 08 (Standard & Poor's) - Comverse Technology, Inc. (CMVT 222 1/8) posted $0.60 Q4 EPS on 27% sales rise and set a 2-for-1 stock split. Jefferies downgraded the company's shares to accumulate from buy.

Analyst Ashton Douglas told his salesforce Q4 was the 23rd straight quarter of meeting or beating expectations. He says upside continues to come from a strong top line, slightly stronger operating margins, and strength in Asia and Europe. The analyst notes that repeat sales remain high at 80% of total sales, while backlog was up 9% sequentially.

Douglas raised his $2.56 fiscal 2001 (January) EPS estimate to $2.64 and increased his $3.06 fiscal 2002 EPS forecast to $3.18.

Despite the strong results and CMVT's status as an industry leader, the analyst downgraded its shares on the belief there should be a limit to the premium investors are willing to pay for the company's visibility and upside.
