Dear Victor: I like the name an earlier poster attributed to us--Pignologists or something to that effect. Only good thing about owning this PIG is that in a market like today the $ drop (not percentage) doesnt look so bad. (gg) JDN

Does anyone know if CPQ will announce a 1 Ghz Pentium III PC? Or will they be sticking with their already announced 1 Ghz Athlon PC?

Dell and HP both announced PIII's today. But what I'd like to know is, how the hell does DELL stay in business? Do none of their customer's check out competitors and prices? Anytime I've checked prices, Dell's usually the highest, but with today's announcement they aren't even in the same country as HP let alone the same State or "ballpark".

For essentially 128 Mbytes additional RDRAM but 10 Gbytes less disk space than HP's box, Dell is asking $2500.00 more.

Here are some cuts from their announcements:

The Special Edition Dell Dimension will start at $5,999 for 256 MB of RDRAM, a 30 GB hard drive, 64 MB DDR GeForce video card, 12X MAX. DVD-ROM, 8X MAX. CD-RW and a SoundBlaster Live!(TM) Value sound card among other features.

In addition to the Intel Pentium III 1.0GHz processor, the HP Pavilion 1G PC includes the Intel 820 chipset, 128MB PC800 RDRAM, 7200 RPM 40GB hard drive, 8x maximum speed DVD drive, HP CD-Writer Plus CD-RW drive, Creative Annihilator 4x AGP graphics card with the NVIDIA GeForce chip with 32MB DDR memory, Creative Sound Blaster Live! soundcard, Polk Audio AMR2 speakers, V.90 56K modem, Intel 10/100 BaseT network card, one-touch Internet keyboard and scroller mouse.

The HP Pavilion 1G PC has an estimated U.S. street price of $3,499.

victor....RE: Optimist vs Pessimist
I am an optimistic pessimist who expects
CPQ stock to move South in a Northly direction.

.....or was that a pessimistic optimist......?

Who's getting the INTC computer supply contract?
