Jorj, I have several accounts at SSB, and one I trade myself there for $5 a trade. I bargained when I did that, claiming I could do it for free at American Express.
Call a bunch of them and bargain accordingly.

JXM- Excellent service and reliability. I have only had one little problem in 10 years with them and they fixed it immediately. In addition to that according to a good friend of mine, who is high up with them, they have an unwritten policy that the customer is always right (especially for Unlimited Advantage or ML Financial Advantage account holders). BTW- another perk is free online checking. The fee is actually based on account balances, and I was slightly off. It's .375% quarterly of your account balance from 100k to (I think)500K. Over 500K its even cheaper. The website was good and is even better now. New items include selling short, covering shorts, etc. They are switching to a new site called MLDirect.com They do have a few rules for the online portion that are changing soon I'm told. Stocks must be over $3 to trade online, or you need to call the order in. You also can't buy and sell the same day online in the same stock (you have to either hold 1 day, or call in to do the other half of the trade). Since I'm usually a short term, but not daytrader, this doesn't affect me much, but when it does I just call in and it takes an extra minute. My best friend is my broker and his wife is my wife's best friend so I know he can be trusted. I can have him send you info if you want a recommendation, or you could just call your local branch office. Hope this helps. We love it. Jeff
