I see no reason to not have a star topology but what are the advantages then? Maybe a small Lon network around a pumps would be ok but that seems to me be a lot of un-needed complexity then back the control house in star topology. What you get with Lonworks is a reduction in wires, there is little to no reason to have intelligent devices in a harsh environment whole sale. It's been awhile so I'm shooting from the hip. correct me if I'm wrong.

I can see how clean Lonworks would make it, no field mux, but there is no redundancy at all in the network.
