ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 2000--Dell Computer
Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL) became the worldwide market share leader in
both portable and desktop personal computer shipments to medium and
large businesses(1) in the fourth quarter of 1999, according to
well-known market research firm IDC(2).

Portable PCs

Dell sharply accelerated its portable PC shipments worldwide to
medium and large businesses, growing 57 percent year-over-year.

Dell also extended its lead in the U.S. market for portable PC
sales to medium and large businesses, growing its market share to 30.3
percent, nearly double that of its closest competitor, according to
IDC.

Desktop PCs

Dell also took the lead in worldwide shipments of desktops to
medium and large businesses with 20 percent market share for the full
year of 1999. For this segment, Dell's desktop shipments increased 40
percent year-over-year, more than three times the market rate. Dell
also increased market share of desktops among U.S. medium and large
businesses to 31.3 percent, with shipments growing 48 percent for the
full year of 1999.
"Delivering high quality products and providing a superior
customer experience have propelled Dell to the leading position in
notebooks and desktops," said Joe Marengi, senior vice president and
general manager, Dell Relationship Group. "We're applying that same
focus to the server market, in which we increased our market share
from 10 percent to 14.5 percent last year and currently hold the No. 2
position worldwide."
