Getting back to the subject and away from conspiracy theory I excerpted these points from our friends over on the Yahoo board:Can someone please describe the differences >between EXLN's "data integration server" and >WEBM's "Web integration server"? I don't really know anything about WEBM's products, but I think WEBM's main product manages a website itself, that is, the web pages. eXcelon manages data that is not the web pages but data that would be stored in a database. eXcelon stores XML records of customer purchases at an e-commerce site, while WEBM's product manages the e-commerce site itself. Re: Will someone please explain? by: vagsmith 3/7/00 3:32 pm Msg: 6326 of 6415 WEBM connects disparate systems over the internet. So if retailer (say walmart) wants its inventory of Soaps controlled by PG (bad choice today), i.e VMI, then it lets walmart check the inventory postion, sales information etc. Now tradionally it was achieved using EDI, an expensive slow and now archaic solution. Enter into picture these XML companies like WEBM and extricity (still private). WEBM makes b2b connectors. It extracts data from one system (say invetory information from walmart) translates it into XML business objects, encrypts it and transfers over the internet. On the vendors side (PG in this case), the XML business object is translated back into 'language' of the system and the inventory information is entered, almost real time into the Vendors system. So WEBM enables extended enterprise!! Hope this helps. (The core product from WEBM is now being given away for free by OnDisplay!! But the revenues will come from implementation and consulting services) No spell check here!! EXLN B2B data integration server by: b2btracker 3/7/00 10:06 pm Msg: 6354 of 6415 EXLN's B2B data integration server is in my opinion an XML data server and a development tool for XML (XSL). I hear that EXLN will be comming out with new software which will provide out of the box, without much development, the same B2B functionality like WEBM and more workflow as well as provide vertical solutions for specific markets. Don't forget that EXLN is standards based and not proprietary like WEBM. EXLN's XML data server will also provide other software vendors' a platform to develop their applications off of. (Content management, Portal Software, B2B, B2C, EAI, Supply chain and Web Business Intelligence application framework) Not only is their server a B2B/EDI replacement, it in my opinion a development platform for XML Data Server (which can be anything as long it is data intensive.) This is huge! Any application which is looking to server data and in an XML format is an opportunity for EXLN. Don't forget the EJB Cache forward technology of Javlin as well. This market is cruising with BEAS WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Silver Stream, etc. Stay Long! islandcigars by: vangaroo 3/7/00 11:14 pm Msg: 6360 of 6415 petal to the metal pal. this baby will quietly make new highs over and over. thats the way I like it. One of the early customers for eXcelon will be Dell Online. Dell had originally signed on to use ObjectStore for a future iteration of its e-Commerce site in order to get the performance it needed to serve non-attenuating growth in traffic. But after looking at eXcelon, Dell decided that the functionality provided by eXcelon was extremely important to meet the complex requirements of selling millions of dollars a day of customized configurations and processing complex orders in high volumes." eXcelon's new focus is on "Dynamic Business-to-Business" communication, and they intend that communication to include as many organizations as possible?even those that aren't its customers. Jaenicke wants the eXcelon B2B Integration Server to "connect anyone, any time, in a collaborative style that doesn't impose requirements on the other end of the conversation." This inclusive approach could make it possible to deploy effective implementations without requiring partners to use the same software. Contrast this with platforms such as Microsoft's BizTalk, where messages must be exchanged between BizTalk-aware servers.
