The good thing about producing a commodity item is that it might help Cree push down the cost of producing SiC. There is no guarantee of that. Only R&D will drive down their cost, not simply economy of scale.

Cree needs to leverage their production of LEDs into production of higher value SiC products. Like RF devices.

Also, Blue Lasers are still a ways away from commercial production, and a much farther ways away from volume use. There isn't even a standard yet for the HDTV DVDs that would use them.

That is why I think CREE the stock is way ahead if itself, even though I think Cree the company has a very bright future.
