Mike,

Yes I have heard and think there is a great deal of substance (or at least abstraction)in what GG says. Khosla's presentation on the Bandwidth Tsumani last year was quite insightful but he (like LU) missed the move from OC 48 to OC 192. I would love to hear his latest on all aspects of optical networking. ESP if he has any comment on O-O switches. It seems to me that many claim to have them but the techniques (tiny mirrors (LU and others), Tiny Bubles (see EETIMES on Agilent) and others aren't quite there. I was intrigued by solitons for a while (I still think there will be further headway here) but the Qtera and Alegety bits and pieces that I have read seem to hint that deployment of a commercial grade system is a ways away. Wouldn't you love to see who Kliener is backing in this "space". WTR Clay Christensen, the disruptive technology model is fun to read, play with and write business plans to fit. Perhaps HP's spin-off of Agelent was an attempt to follow the book's management principals. It would seem that CC's model is more suited (as his book suggests) to highly commoditized markets with extremely cheap and commoditized products/services. I am not sure that NGI broadband telephony fall into that market structure. The potential market players are still emerging and the battle seems to be one of creative technologies, not sustaining techs. Its fun. I will post any of the speaches if I find them.

Steve

Hello MikeM,

I really appreciate the info/research on this thread.

You may have already seen this, but in case you haven't here is a link to a Clayton Christensen speech at the Telecosm '99 Conference. The Link to his speech starts midway through his talk, so you have to find the earlier speaker and then scroll forward.

Other great speakers as well.
