Andy, I wish I was at the OFC as well. Pat Mudge is also there. I agree that shorting JDSU is like shorting Dell back in the 1990s. Until they disappoint in earnings the way Dell did late in the decade, we have an all clear signal. JDSU does not have to worry so much about another NEW startup. Chances are they will not face any competition from an upstart due to the HUGE BARRIERS TO ENTRY.
A lot of the shorting could just be related the Nasdaq100, of which JDSU is now an important component.

The shorts will learn the hard way, as usual. <g>

Andy
Thank you for the feedback direct from the "OFC trenches." It's easy to get wrapped up in the Fed, oil prices, etc., when really what matters (long term) to an individual company like jdsu
is trying to make enough product to meet demand.
Ken

Anyone would have to be an idiot to short one of these optical communications stocks naked. (That excludes the arbs playing ETEK).

But there is simply no way JDSU can grow "25%+ sequentially each Q for the next 10 years." Let's see... (1.25^^40) * 100B = $750,000,000,000,000. That's 750 Trillion.

More importantly, no one can project growth out 10 years.
