I can't resist just one comment.... To the best of my knowledge, protection against E. coli is really not relevant. It accounts for a very small number of cases of bovine mastitis and it doesn't cause the permanent udder damage that S. aureus does. Moreover, as far as I know, it doesn't have the ability to exist as a sub-clinical infection that can cause contagion. S. aureus is the one to focus on.
