Heinz, excellent points... I'm sure that entire volumes will someday be written on the statistical chicanery that has led us to our present state. The numbers released by the BLS have so many dubious assumptions that they are not even worth considering, as even the Fed has indicated. At least the Fed has a sophisticated data collection framework, so as to give its numbers some credibility. I'll be very interested in seeing the Consumer Confidence index later this month. This figure always peaks before the economy at large does.
