Re 800 #'s. SW Bell was involved in hooking the Clifton gw into the pstn through Sprint. There needs to be a T-1 line to tap into the 800 system and it wasn't done. SW Bell screwed up. It is being installed now and should take about a week followed by another week or two of testing then 800 #'s, a month at the outside I am told. Believe me, I will put it to the test. Why is this important? 1. they said it would be available and so it needs to be, 2. when you are away from home, you want to use the 800 #'s to call your travel agent, stock broker, etc. 3. it is a global phone to be able to call anywhere, anytime. It isn't if they exclude numbers.

Glitches like this annoy the heck out of me but I am more interested in how they handle it. Glitches are going to happen. So far they are getting a 95% from me. It was 100% prior to this.

Another thing that is happening right now is we applying our good ole US standards in evaluating the system. I even find myself comparing this to cell. I think I would look at this a lot different if I didn't have a phone at all. I don't think I would even care or even know about 800 #'s. We have known from the start that the the primary market is the 4 bil who have never made a phone call and especially to the 40 million of those that studies indicate can afford it. I think it is very reasonable to assume we will get a few of those. As a previous poster pointed out, there is learning curve taking place on how to deal with different cultures. Let's hope they are adjusting accordingly.

I haven't been able to listen to the conf call yet because everytime I call, I get a msg saying it is too busy and to call back in an hour. Maybe tomorrow. There is obviously a lot of interest. I have never had that problem before. One poster said that he felt BS and crew were both dedicated to and convinced that this will be a success. That is very consistent with the feeling I get from everyone I talk to at G* USA, Canada, and Loral.

Cooters, G*USA maps show you should have had coverage in Tijuana and Northern Mexico, at least.

It's very annoying that you didn't and worse that the customer rep was so clueless about what his own company's maps say. Assuming the long awaited "Commercial Launch" was at CTIA week before last, coverage should extend to all of Mexico:

globalstarusa.com

Even if we're still in "soft launch" this map shows all of N. Mexico covered:

globalstarusa.com

G* needs to get it's act together quick on where it's really offering service.

I thought that using the G* phone in Tijuana for the first time was going to be one of those experiences that I remember forever. I guess it still will be, but not as I had hoped.

And BTW How do you know it was a bad cat? <G>
