mike: First of all I have no idea how Economic Times got a hold of a confidential document from RBI to ICICI. Looks like RBI needed some clarification on the company's NPAs along with other matters for which a detailed answer was said to be given and RBI found it to be satisfactory. This is all I know. Besides the company now have to comply with US GAAP as a listed company in the U.S, I am thinking if there were questionable practices in assessing the quality of NPAs the auditors would have noticed it and asked the bank to correct it before giving their 'belssings'.

Anyway all I know is what I read in the press, so your guess is as good as mine at this point.
