I went for a three weeks holiday, and realized what a SI addict I have become in the last two years. Just driving and walking through the endless space in the South of Chile. Lakes, mountain ranges, volcanoes. Fresh fruit, the occasional steak, fish, wine. New friends. Just having a good time. And still thinking how the thread would be doing (i'm kidding, just the first days). Coming back, wading thru the 400 new posts. Rebels in the jungle and playa playing on a new beach. Don't take Nielsen or MediaMetrix as the dominant measure to rank this company. They are just some indicators of webpage views. With the 10 messages a time, we have less pages, but more value. I would even say that hypermart should be removed from the Go2net numbers. They are individual sites using a host. Exodus or Verio are not listed on MM. A better indicator is revenue growth. If gnet has over 19 Million for this quarter than it is doing pretty well. Let's view SI more as an "ultimate resource center for the smart investor" and less as a message board. Messages this quarter seem to go down by 30% compared to last year. Users have many more options. Portfolio, news, charts. Still the numbers show the forces of competition. It would be nice to know the numbers of new members, both free registered and paying ones. Going through the backlog of links, I came across this one:techweb.com Internet is still in its infancy. Like TV it will take 50 years to mature. I like it that Go2Net is planning long term. A new building, designed for growth. 6 year term for Broadband Partners portal deal. Carefully selecting new investments. Avoiding the hype of the day. But they are no superhumans. They do make errors. In the X:drive announcement, they referred twice to the www.X:drive.com website, which obviously doesn't work. But this should have been checked before release.siliconinvestor.com It is a fast growing company entering many new fields of operation. More and more they become a netware development company and should apply the vigorous steps of structured development and planned quality control. In their job page they describe the environment our new creative java programmers will work in. I hope they know how to balance creativity and discipline. It's like herding cats. The NDB deal will double the SI membership. PlanetPayment will extent the reach of authorizenet. We need this type of OEM partnerships. Yes, the e-commerce deal may be late. But better have a good solution working before roll-out in 800.000 sites. Regards, Pareto
