Here's the news: Offshore Systems International Ltd - Offshore plans to merge Internet e-commerce Offshore Systems International Ltd OSI Shares issued 22,661,493 2000-03-08 close $0.8 Thursday Mar 9 2000 Mr. John Jacobson reports John Jacobson, president and chief executive officer of Offshore Systems International, said: "With the rapid evolution of wireless and satellite broadband technology extending the reach of the Internet, putting vital navigation data onto ships on a just-in-time basis is now feasible. Offshore has been making and distributing electronic charts since 1985, and has an extensive network of supply contracts with national hydrographic offices to distribute charts and updates to shipping companies. We will develop a suite of Web-enabled electronic commerce solutions to manage our customers' chart inventories, then we'll open these solutions to the industry as a whole. "Offshore's existing customers, and many of our prospective new customers, have expressed their frustration with the complexity of managing their electronic chart inventory and updates. As chart technology around the world evolves towards the stated goal of uniform and standardized chart formats and updates, the reality today is that there is a regional patchwork of subtly incompatible solutions that navigators cope with in their daily jobs. Offshore will develop data packaging and distribution solutions using modern electronic commerce standards that will minimize the need for navigators to be experts in digital data management and computer technology. Opening the source-code for these packaging solutions will accelerate the adoption and use of electronic charts by the shipping industry." Offshore has more than 15 years of experience providing electronic charts and precision electronic chart display systems for navy, coast guard, passenger ships and other commercial vessels. These navigation systems provide real-time position and status display. They interface to virtually all of the available onboard sensors including GPS, radar, speed log, gyrocompass, depth sounder and in some cases even the engine and steering controls. The system is extremely rugged and is known for its precision, performance, and reliability. (c) Copyright 2000 Canjex Publishing Ltd. canada-stockwatch.com
