If only we'd see some more coverage in the United States on IC. This really starting to be an exciting time for IC and its many ventures. I think that we're still on the cusp of recognizing the potential of IC.

Investsmart sues ICICI for use of similar site name

Our Mumbai Bureau
9 MARCH

INVESTSMART India, the web-broking subsidiary of Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS), has dragged ICICI to court for "attempting to illegally profit from the popularity of Investsmart's site."

ICICI has registered the domain name investmartindia.com which is very similar to the name of the IL&FS subsidiary. ICICI will now have to defend its rights over the web domain investmartindia.com in court against Investsmart. ICICI has registered this domain name in addition to ICICI's own web trading domain.......

Investsmart India has learnt its lesson a bit late and has moved fast to register investmart.net and investmart.org. ICICI on the other hand seems to be well aware of the pitfalls of the web. In a bid to preempt any individual from setting up a hate site, the company has gone ahead and registered ICICIsucks.com .

Incidentally, the chairman of IL&FS (Investsmart India's parent) is Deepak Parekh, chairman, HDFC. While Investmart India says that ICICI did not respond to a request for a meeting, ICICI sources said that they were not given enough time to even set up a meeting.

The contention is that the grievance was communicated to them only on the March 4.
