I just signed up with Ameritech xDSL for my private practice, but they haven't installed it yet.

I don't want to bore you with my sad sad stories, but I have tried in vain to get MediaOne to hook up my house with cable modem (Roadrunner service). They sent me a letter in October saying a second cable had been laid on my block. The techs came out and isntall an Ethernet card and cable modem. After 2 hours, they couldn't sign into Roadrunner. The technician told my my "node" had not been activated yet but that the infrastructure was laid. But central office told me that there was a mistake, there is no cable trunk in my area yet. The technician laughed, took me outside, and showed me the second line. He had no reason to lie. He told me that MediaOne was not activating my node because I was the first one to sign up. Central office hotly denied this, insisting there was no second cable line.

I gave up. To punish Medione for their skullduggery, cancleled my MediaOne TV service and switched to Dish Network. I am happy. My wife is happy too, because she can watch her Russian channels!

MediaOne is one big mess. They use Gemstar to provide the programming information, but there is usually no relationship between the info and what's on.

Maybe I am overgeneralizing from my own experience, but I think ATT has a big mess on its hands.

RR and Athm chances of getting together at this point seems a mute point. They had their chances in the past and didn't come true. RR seems to have been in limbo for the last 2 years. No direction and no CEO. Now I see that RR is the cable divesture which can be bought by whomever has $$. It is a valuable and soon to be very sought after asset. A sale of RR will definitely be at a high premium which will show how much ATHM is worth. Everyone is lost including analysts on this one. AOL seems to be getting the best of all scenarios because T simply doesn't know how to commit to ATHM. Armstrong said he was the Godfather to Excite a couple of weeks ago and now lets see what a Godfather means to him. T has better come through for ATHM simpily because everyone will be weary of AT&T if they break contracts.
