Roe is central, Neocon. Let's see how the big tent holds up under that one. You think gutsy W will have the nerve to actually say Roe should be overturned? We can hope. As to the rest of your pat analysis, it cuts both ways, and I think Brooks had you, in particular, and the rest of the hateful lifers in general, pegged dead on.

The people who support Bush have a movement mentality. They belong to the conservative movement that cohered around Barry Goldwater and hardened under Reagan and Gingrich. They look out over that GOP coalition- the gun lovers, the religious conservatives, the free marketeers- and they think that adds up to 51 percent of the electorate. The movement consciousness is based on the idea that we are a band of brave, beleaguered souls under perpetual assault from the liberal mainstream media. It's that damn pesky Constitution getting in the way of their plans again. What a paradise we would have if we could replace the rule of law with the rule of democrats.

Take away soft money, and you take away some of the pressure.......
