Ted, It would seem to me that if AMD is selected for the X-box, it will benefit economically from its involvement on the same scale as NVDA. If so, I think AMD's increases during the last few days do not look as impressive as NVDA's only because NVDA's float is much smaller and therefore the impact of the X-box is greater. Does anyone else agree? Earlier in the week I might have believed that AMD was going to move on X-box. Today, I don't know. We know how fickle movement on AMD has been...I still haven't gotten over the 4th quarter earnings announcement. And it will take time (if ever) for the street to love the stock. Look at the article in "The Street" yesterday on insider selling. Yes, Cramer is a weenie...but AMD is not a bluechip, nor is it an unproven tech stock. In other words, it still has a "reputation." You're right about NVDA's float. They've also been executing flawlessly for the past year with no other competitors in sight for their core business. As I understand it, 3dfx is still trying to bring to market a chip that will compete with the current generation from NVDA. My thoughts on the X-Box are: 1) Needs developer support to be successful, 2) May be too late to compete with PSX2, 3) What $$ concessions did AMD make to get in the Box, 4) How difficult to port/develop titles, 5) What is royalty scheme, and 6) If successful, how will this affect overall pc sales? But who knows....as we all know, predicting stock movement is often like reading tea leaves. The only real (AMD) question in my mind is whether we will have another buying opportunity before earnings. Up 3 3/8 as we speak....another breakout? -Scot
