BS:

Thanks for the note. Much appreciated.

I should know the title of the song, but can't dredge it up at the moment.

Gordon is a throw-back, a true "wandering minstrel". He has written hundreds of hits, all with a story to be told. Not many "balladeers" left out there.

Gordon's career is winding down now and his gentle baritone voice is not what it once was. He has always simply wandered out on to the stage and started singing, preferring to let his songs take centre stage.

Aside from the fact that I enjoy his music, he will remain a special person to this aging jock for personal reasons. In 1976, I managed to get to the Olympic games. A seventh place finish "sucked" , especially after an intensive four year training/competition campaign. Following the games, my partner and I took two weeks off, then went right back into heavy training mode for the next four years. Won the trials again in 1980 and looked a decent bet for a medal. The Moscow boycott darned near broke my heart and was an incredibly bitter pill to swallow.

On his own, and without any interest in personal gain, Gordon organized a superb "concert" for the Canadian Olympic team, which included some of the best entertainers of the day. That darned event sure helped a bunch of embittered guys and gals get on with their lives, and I will remember it when I am ninety.

Best, Earlie
