They wouldn't need to rewrite their Mac Applications. Just use the Windows Applications on Mac OS for
Intel.

Is there any MSFT licensing for Apple to use software genereated by a non-MSFT software corp for
Windows?

Or is that the legal block that prevents other OS developes from getting an instant applications base?

Are you suggesting that Apple port the entire Win32 APIs (ala Carbon) to run on top of Mac OS for Intel? That is no trivial feat.

Otherwise, it is not a legal issue, it's just not the way that software works.

Re: Windows Apps on Mac for Intel:

Let me get this straight...

You're suggesting that Apple should port OS X to x86 so that we can run Windows Applications on Intel hardware? And give up Mac OS apps in the process?

Uh...call me dense, but if that's you're goal then why not just run Windows and be done with it?

BTW, Steve Jobs tried to do exactly what you're describing once. It was called OpenStep for Windows. If it had turned out to be the magic solution, then he'd probably still be selling it today.
