China Unicom, Qualcomm Sign Cdma Property Right Agreement
BEIJING, March 9 Asia Pulse - China Unicom and Qualcomm International Industrial Co, Ltd. of the United States have
recently signed a framework agreement on CDMA property rights here in Beijing.
Chinese enterprises may define their principles and procedures and sign specific agreements with Qualcomm in accordance
with the framework agreement. They are entitled to enjoying all the preferential treatment the agreement offers to Chinese
firms, that is, to produce, sell and export CDMA products. Qualcomm has promised to provide special CDMA IC to all
Chinese firms with which it has specific agreements, and has agreed, in principle, to cooperate with Chinese institute on the
study and development of CDMA technologies. Furthermore, Qualcomm will probe into the possibility of localizing the
production of special CDMA IC in China.

General manager of China Unicom Yang Xianzu said that by the agreement, his company has certainly taken a big step
forward in its CDMA network project and may further expand the network in the future. China Unicom will go on
simplifying the procedure for China to use CDMA property rights, and Chinese consumers will not wait long to enjoy all
merits of CDMA, such as quality voice.

China Unicom is a State-owned large telecom operator in China. It has long been engaged in providing quality
telecommunication service, and has established its advantages in mobile, data and long-distance communications. To further
improve the quality of service, China Unicom plans to construct a CDMA digital mobile communication network.

Qualcomm (www.qualcomm.com) leads the world in developing CDMA digital techniques and providing digital radio
communication products and service. Business scope of the US company covers integrated CDMA chip sets and system
software, technical permit; Eudora E-mail software based on Windows and Macintosh platforms.
